Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 1/4 cup uncooked macaroni cooked
  • 1/4 cup chicken crumbs optional
  • tomato slices

Preparation

  1. Melt butter in a 4 cup measuring cup (or saucepan).
  2. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
  3. Add salt, Worcestershire sauce and pepper. Gradually stir in milk.
  4. Cook and stir until smooth and thickened, about 3 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
  6. Combine sauce and cooked macaroni.
  7. Top with remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese and crumb mixture if desired.
  8. Bake on a greased pan until bubbly and golden, about 5 to 10 minutes depending on oven.
  9. Let stand 1 minute before serving and top with tomato slices.
