Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • vegetable oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Place the flour and salt in a bowl.
  2. Add oil.
  3. Slowly add water and mix into dough.
  4. Bring the dough together with your hands, then turn it out onto a floured surface.
  5. Knead into a firm but pliable dough, adding more flour if the dough is too sticky.
  6. Cover and rest 30 minutes.
  7. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls, and roll out each to form a round, flat circle about 5 cm in diameter.
  8. Brush a frying pan with oil, and cook the chapatis for 3 to 4 minutes each side, until golden brown.
