Ingredients

  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 325 F and lightly grease baking sheets.
  2. Sift together the dry ingredients.
  3. Cream together the shortening and sugar.
  4. Beat in egg and molasses.
  5. Beat until light and fluffy. Add dry ingredients.
  6. Shape into small balls and roll each one in sugar.
  7. Space 2 inches apart on baking sheet.
  8. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
