Salted Buttercream Frosting

x 1

The absolute best buttercream frosting recipe with salted butter for a sweet and salty flavor. This recipe frosts one 8 inch cake or about 16 cupcakes.

Using salted butter instead of adding salt ensures salt is evenly distributed. Frosting freezes well. For a larger cake, double the recipe. Coverage depends on thickness of application.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter a good quality, tastes-good-off-the-spoon butter
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 cups icing sugar also known as powdered sugar or confectioners sugar
  • 4-5 tablespoons coffee cream cream with 18% milk fat and up

Preparation

  1. Beat the salted butter until light and creamy to avoid lumps.
  2. Add the icing sugar and mix well, using fresh icing sugar for best flavor.
  3. Add 4 tablespoons of coffee cream, adjusting cream quantity one tablespoon at a time to reach desired consistency (less cream for stiffer icing, more for lighter).
  4. Add vanilla and continue mixing until fluffy and thoroughly combined.
