Ingredients
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 2 pound stew beef cut into 1 inch cubes
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 onion chopped
- 1/2 half green pepper cut into strips
- 3 carrots cut in 3/4 inch pieces
- 3 potatoes cut in chunks
Preparation
- Combine flour, salt, and pepper. Coat meat with flour mixture. In a large frying pan, brown meat on all sides in hot oil.
- Make sauce: Combine water, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and salt. Stir into browned meat.
- Add chopped onion to browned meat, cover, and cook over low heat for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add remaining vegetables: green pepper, carrots, and potatoes. Cook until meat and vegetables are tender, approximately 45 minutes. Serve with fresh bread or buns.
