The cake is a bit 'rich', so Sharon serves smallish rectangles which plate/present very nicely.

Ingredients
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons orange peel grated fresh
- 1/2 teaspoon All Spice
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 egg slightly beaten
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnut, pecan, pistachio, anything!)
Preparation
- Pre-heat oven to 350°F.
- Grease 9" square pan.
- Combine brown sugar, flour, butter, salt, orange peel, All Spice and blend with pastry blender. Pour half of the crumb mixture into the greased pan --- spread evenly, but don’t press down hard.
- Combine baking soda and sour cream; add egg; pour into remaining half of crumbs; and, pour this mixture over crumbs in pan. Sprinkle with the nuts.
- Bake at 350°F for 40-45 minutes.
Whipped Cream
Ingredients
- 1/2 pint whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons icing sugar
- 1 teaspoon orange peel grated
- 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or Cointreau
Preparation
- At least one hour before serving dessert, beat whipping cream until very stiff. Add icing sugar, orange peel and liqueur. Refrigerate at least 1 hour to blend flavors.
